What Is Tools for Life?

Tools for Life is the Assistive Technology Act program for the state of Georgia. Tools for Life is one of 56 programs across all states and territories that focus on assistive technology solutions for individuals with disabilities.

Our team provides one-on-one direct services as well as group trainings and demonstrations of equipment that ranges from new and emerging technology to reliable solutions that have stood the test of time. We also work with state entities and support services to better provide access to assistive technology so that people can fully engage with their communities in all aspects of life.

What is Assistive Technology (AT)?

Assistive Technology is anything that increases your independence. From a high tech feeding or communication device, all the way down to a pencil grip. The Assistive Technology Act defines AT as "any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.” This broad definition allows a person with a disability to choose the solutions that work best in their particular circumstance.
